2009 – 0,43 (video project)

The video called “TASTE” (2`30“) is connected with the painting called “TASTE”. As the video is about the painting being “licked”, Maarit Murka is testing the fact if physically and chemically licking Your creation can damage or to improve the creator. During several consultations with doctors it was proven that oil colour is not harmful for persons, but the fact that perfect, ideal photo realistic painting of Maarit Murka was “destroyed” by the artist herself, can be firstly disturbing for artist, but also for audience. The process doesn’t seem normal, but according to the artist, the only way to determine something, indeed is through natural experiments- direct contact of creation and creator.

The third video is called “Black humour” (0`43“) and is Kasimir Malevits, whose most famous work is probably painting of Black Square. In this video performance artist used the modern idea of motion image (video) to bring to audience the work of Malevits on video and to close the idea with time frame, by connecting it to famous number 0,43- this is numeral value of Murka’s concept for the exhibition. As You can see the time is very important in creation, the symbols connecting different works can be brought together by modern possibilities and can be more enjoyable for the audience. Or more unpleasant.
